HEGEL'S PHENOMENOLOGY OF SPIRIT

I attended a Quaker meeting in Pasadena per the blue ribbon rec of @Londyn Harris and met a theologian there wearing this great tee. Hegel argued that the presence of the divine in individual consciousness was more authentic and important than institutional religious observance. Over decaf coffee in this Quaker meeting house kitchen in Pasadena, this cool tee guy went on to argue that Socrates was also deeply skeptical of written texts and believed that “living dialogue” was superior to reading written words.

This was all very relevant because in a Quaker meeting you sit in “companionable quiet.” The whole thing is about presence, I learned; sitting quietly in the presence of your fellow man, sitting quietly in the presence of the divine, and I found it to be very powerful.
